Remnant 2: How To Defeat The Custodian's Eye

Achieve the final Seeker's Key.

If you have already completed The Hatchery dungeon in Remnant 2, then the road to Spectrum Nexus is open for you to go and grab the final Seeker's Key in N'Erud and head to the first major boss battle in this world.

However, before all that happens, you need to defeat The Custodian's Eye, which is the boss residing deep inside the Spectrum Nexus dungeon. This is going to be quite a difficult battle, and you need to upgrade your weapons as much as you can.

Updated by Mehrdad Khayyat on August 2, 2023: This guide has been updated to include a new image to show you the risk of falling down from the arena, which kills you instantly during one of The Custodian's Eye's attacks.

Before starting this fight, make sure to head back to Ward 13 and purchase an Ammo Box. There is a bug in this boss fight that sometimes stops dropping ammo for your weapons. However, do not use the Ammo Box until both your weapons are empty, and you can't find any ammo to pick up from the arena. Also, if you are not sure that you can win the fight, you are still suggested to avoid using the Ammo Box as it is a somewhat expensive item that will require significant grind to buy it once again.

When it comes to loadout suggestions, we suggest you carry a gun with minimal recoil to allow you to focus your shots on the boss' core eye, which is its weak spot. As you can probably guess, Medic's machine gun won't help you much here. Other than that, melee weapons are useless in this fight as the boss will always be flying.

For your secondary weapon, we suggest you craft The Enigma handgun, but you can only do it if N'erud is not your first world in the game, as the resources for crafting The Enigma can only be obtained from The Labyrinth, which is the second realm in all runs. The use case of The Enigma is for the three spherical robots that come out of The Custodian's Eye in certain phases. This weapon has a big radius and no matter what you are aiming at, it will damage anything within its radius. So, while you are killing those smaller robots, the weapon will also damage the boss as well.

The Custodian's Eye is one of the bosses with multiple different attack modes, and it changes frequently during the battle.

The first attacking type is a purple laser that follows you. When the boss uses this attack, shooting the core eye will deal extra damage to it, but you also need to avoid the laser.

So, we suggest you start shooting the eye and when the laser is close to you, dodge to a side that the laser is not moving towards. Keep in mind that the laser leaves AOE damage on the ground for a few seconds, which means you need to avoid dodging toward the trace of the laser as well. For example, if the laser is moving to the left, you need to avoid dodging to the right or to the left directly. Instead, you are advised to dodge to left-up or left-down. Don't be afraid of hitting the laser during the dodge as you will gain a shield that keeps you safe from laser damage. As soon as you are up from dodging, you need to start shooting at the core and then dodge again when the laser is close enough.

Once this attack type is over, The Custodian's Eye will reveal the next attack mode. In this part, some of the hexagonal surfaces beneath you will come up to make pillars, and the boss itself will produce three small flying spheres. You need to get rid of those spheres as soon as possible and then hide behind a pillar. The boss will turn on a red laser and rotate it around the arena quite fast.

While standing behind a pillar will keep you safe, you can also avoid this attack by dodging it. If you manage to dodge with perfect timing when that laser is close, your shield will deny the laser damage. Keep in mind that this attack will repeat twice. When the laser goes off, the core eye will still glow red, shooting it will deal extra damage to the boss.

After that, there are two different outcomes. The boss will either return to the purple laser again or trigger another new attack. If it shifts into the new attack mode, the boss will stand on top of the arena and the hexagonal surfaces will glow red, except for a few of them that are placed in the outer ring of the arena. When this happens, you need to go stand on top of the surfaces without the glow as soon as possible, as the glowing surfaces will fall away.

Now, the boss will turn on three lasers and will start to rotate. While you can deal significant damage to the core eye in this part, you also need to jump from one platform to the other to avoid the lasers.

Sometimes, there is a pillar or a half-pillar in one of the outer-ring platforms. If you manage to make your way behind that pillar, you can stop running around and just hide behind the pillar when the laser reaches you. It will give you more time to deal damage to the core.

Usually, if you have gained enough experience with this fight, you should be able to drain nearly half of the boss's health by this point. However, keep in mind that whenever you use a Dragon Heart Relic on yourself for healing, you will also heal the boss to a certain degree. If you are using The Handler class, the boss won't heal itself when your companion revives you. Also, healing yourself with Skills won't heal the boss.

When the third attack type is over, The Custodian's Eye will once again start to repeat the purple laser and red laser attacks. After that, a new attack type will occur. This time, the boss will stand on top of the arena again, lighting up three blue lasers. At this point, the hexagonal surfaces will go down once again, but the outer rings will only go a few steps down. So, you are still advised to stand on the outer side. Before the lasers start following you, deal damage to the core eye, but once they are close, run away a bit and then start damaging the boss again. Repeat this loop until this attack is over.

Keep in mind that, if you remain on the outer ring of the field, which doesn't go down, you will always face the risk of falling down, especially when you are shooting at the core eye while walking away. There is no invisible wall to save you from falling, and as soon as you fall, you will die instantly. So, we suggest you jump off to the second ring from the outside, which makes the blind walk safer and easier.

The final attack mode could happen after this or after another round of purple laser attacks. In the final attack type, which is the most difficult one, the core eye will turn blue, and the other eyes will start shooting blue projectiles in two phases in a non-stop way. The best way to avoid this type of attack is to run around the arena. Hopefully, there will be some tall pillars to hide behind, but the pillars will go down to be replaced with other ones when the second phase of the attack begins. So, make sure to start running again when you see some dust going off the pillars. During this final attack mode, you really need to avoid damaging the boss while it's attacking, as you will easily take critical hits.

Now that you know what you are required to do in each attack mode, the battle will be far easier for you to complete. That being said, there are some weapon mods like Hot Shot that could help you deal significantly more damage to the boss during this fight.

While The Handler's companion cannot damage the boss in this encounter, it can sometimes become the target for the boss, especially during a purple laser attack, which gives you more freedom to deal damage.

After defeating the boss, continue the path to the other side of the dungeon until you reach one of those statues placed on top of the stone stairs. There, you can claim the final Seeker's Key in N'Erud.
